What are Incoterms?

The INternational COmmerce Terms (Incoterms) were created by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in 1936. The latest version of Incoterms, released in 2010 includes 11 separate codes for various modes of transportation. The terms are anticipated to undergo revision in 2020.

Any shipping manager will tell you that no two shipments are alike. 

A shipment of bubble wrap will not be treated the same as a shipment of heavy construction equipment which in turn will not be treated the same as a shipment of cellphone parts. Nor should they be treated the same.

What Is Freight Class?

When determining the price necessary for shipping freight Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), all carriers abide by the standard Freight Classification System established by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) and published by the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC).

“I want to put in a new order.”

These are some of the best words a shipper can hear from a buyer. But what about if the buyer has only put in an order for half their normal amount? Or a quarter the amount?

Your company produces a great product and you need to get your product to your customers. additionally, you need complete control over shipping that product. But do you have complete control? It isn’t enough to package, schedule and maintain visibility of each load – you also have to understand the tariffs of each carrier and know when you might be on the hook for any unexpected fees.
